Friday August 7 marked the final Stay Fit At Home exercise session for the Summer. To celebrate the end of the summer program, members created a game that lasted the entire session. Participants were split into two groups. In each round of the game, each group sent one representative to guess a number 1-50. Whoever guessed the number closest to the revealed number got to choose what the losing team had to exercise 10 reps of. Every participant had a chance to represent their group in the game. Participants chose movements including V-ups, burpees, lounges, jumping jacks, and squats for the opposing team to perform. AYLUS members wished participants a well-rested break before school begins for many.
Throughout the summer, AYLUS members worked hard to create different warmups, along with cardio, abs, and muscle strengthening workouts for each session. Members also created fun challenges including plank, wall sit, and horse stance competitions and a 145 burpee set. An average of 20 participants attended per session, with ages ranging from 6 to 50. The Stay Fit At Home Program lasted for 2 weeks on Monday-Friday, each session lasting for 30 minutes. To ensure workouts were suited for each age group, members created modifications for difficult exercises and allowed participants to follow along at their own pace. These sessions not only promoted activity during quarantine, but also connected participants from around the country, including New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Florida, and Texas (Sugar Land, Houston, Austin, Pearland). Because many participants enjoyed the exercise program, the Sugar Land Branch hopes to continue this exercise program in the fall. Participating members were Nicole and Isabella Wu.
