On 8/1, Faith Huang from the East Cobb Branch participated in the English Tutoring Program and tutored for 1 hour.
This program’s goal is to provide English guidance to the elderly who do not know much English. Volunteers are needed for 1 on 1 tutoring sessions. By helping these elderly improve their English, the goal is to make communication smoother and life easier for them.
My tutoring was done over Wechat. My student already learned some basic English, but his pronunciation was not very accurate. I used an English phonics workbook as an outline to help the student pronounce words more accurately. I also taught the student some new vocabulary and helped the student with some English homework. The session went very smoothly.
I enjoyed teaching English and making it fun for the student. The student is always very energetic and happy to learn new things. I think it could have been better to think of more engaging activities to add more variety to the lessons.
