On June 30th, members of the New York Branch participated in the cleaning of the Twin Lakes Park in Westchester. Members commenced the branch and removed litter and refuse from the trail on behalf of the local parks services for 3 hours, namely from 10 am to 1 pm. This created both a cleaner park, as we stopped plastics from damaging the wildlife and affecting its natural beauty, but also a safer park, as most of the refuse we disposed were glass shards scattered on the trail which presented a safety hazard for passerby. Members came with gloves and masks to stay safe while participating in volunteering. This event was critical because this sets the precedence for continued contribution during and after the pandemic, as well as the branch’s commitment to serving where its needed most by the community. In total, the New York Branch contributed a vast majority of the total of 145.7 lbs, an amazing start to a hopefully amazing branch.
Members that participated were Jason Xia, Jerry Xia, Kevin Xia, Christopher Ye, Alicia Chang, Zhuoyi Zou, Alex Ye, Zhuowen Zou, and Nick Ye.
