On June 27, 2020, volunteers from the Irvine Branch of AYLUS hosted its Summer Learning Experience’s third math class. Participants in the class consisted of upper elementary school students and the class was conducted through the Zoom platform. It was a very great success!
This lesson revolved around the topic of exponents, where students got to learn topics like fractional exponents, negative exponents, and some nifty tricks students could apply.
We went through the main lecture and gave them a set of challenging problems to do, encouraging students to pitch in and volunteer to explain. Then, we reconvened to play a fun-filled Kahoot which combined both quick-wittedness and competitiveness. Lastly, teachers held a debrief to assess how the lesson went.
We hope to continue spreading the joy of math through our Summer Learning Experience!
