During the week of 6/15, members from the AYLUS East Cobb Branch participated in the English Tutoring Program and tutored ESL for Chinese American senior citizens.
This program’s goal is to provide English guidance to the elderly who do not know much English. Volunteers are needed for 1 on 1 tutoring sessions. By helping the elderly improve their English, the goal is to make communication smoother and life easier for them.
Through Zoom meetings and usage of online resources, we were able to teach the seniors varying levels of English based upon their respective needs, from sight words to sentence formation and basic grammar.
The seniors were very grateful for our help and were very eager to learn. We were glad to help assimilate them into American society and function better with the use of English skills.
