AYLUS Pearland starting offering free summer reading lessons to the public during the Covid-19 pandemic. With over 12 volunteers and over 30 students ranging from 1st grade to 5th grade, volunteers have been working hard to help students improve their verbal skills.
Volunteers use a variety of resources, from Ted talk videos to Times for kids magazines to formulating their own writing prompts, engaging the students and creating a light atmosphere and fun lessons. The classes are split into 5 lessons a week, which allows for the volunteers to personalize the teaching and tailor the lessons specifically to each student’s needs. Classes are hosted through zoom, with at least two volunteers present, so that one can lecture while the other answers questions and fix problems.
Volunteers include Andy Jiang, Jason Yang, Tianrui Cheng, Franklem Peng, Michael Meng, Sophia Lin, Thomas Liang, Catherine Bai, Matthew Li, Thomas Feng, Karen Xu
