On March 17, while schools in the area were closed due to the COVID-19 outbreak, the Sugar Land Branch continued maintaining the Memorial Park Butterfly Garden. In continuation of the original tree planting as well as previous maintenance of the garden, extensive work was done to improve the landscape. The plants, which include the Texas Star Hibiscus tree, giant milkweeds, Turk’s caps, sage, and porterweed, required special care several months after being planted. In particular, the Texas Star Hibiscus trees, which were planted by the Sugar Land branch, had accumulated branches of their own (haha) which, being dead and dry, required trimming and removal. Doing so freed the newly sprouted branches which are expected to grow further later during the spring.
