On February 22, 18 members of East Cobb Young Musicians performed at Arbor Terrace and The Solana for 3 hours.
Members performed of all eras and styles, with some playing together in quartets and others playing alone, both to the enjoyment of the seniors.
When we arrived at Arbor Terrace, the seniors welcomed the members with excited faces. Although not everyone had arrived, the Young Musicians cheerfully introduced themselves and started playing. With so much good music, the Seniors quickly grew happy and cheered on the performers. They were especially delighted when our youngest member present, Steven, went out and played the piano. When our members were not playing music, they interacted with the seniors, talking and laughing with them as they all listened to music. Eventually, after much music had been played, we had to say goodbye. Although some seniors were a bit sad that we were leaving, we promised we would return soon and perform more songs for them.
At The Solana, we were similarly greeted, with the staff and seniors warmly welcoming us. Due to the size and layout of the Solana we had the opportunity to play twice, moving our members between a café in the front of the building and another in the back of the building. In order to facilitate this, we had a few of our team play in the front to a quickly growing audience before moving them to the back. This allowed for us to play for everyone all the music that we had brought. The seniors loved our performance, in both groups. When all our members finished playing in the front of the building, the seniors thanked us, and we promised to return. In the back, we could stay a bit longer as the last performers in the front would have to play in the back. Eventually though, our performance had to end and we said our goodbyes to another half of The Solana. As we prepared to leave, the seniors thanked us for spending a part of our weekends to provide entertainment through music to them and hoped we would visit once more.
Everyone truly enjoyed this performance, and all hoped that we would be able to do another performance like this. Being able to play music and socialize with friends made this performance well worth participating in for many of our performers.
