On December 28, 2019 from 9am to 11:30am, the Phoenix branch gathered at Veteran’s Oasis park for a service project to clean up trash and other conservation related activities. The volunteers hiked the beautiful trails of the park while picking up garbage, dog poop, dead animals, and other unwanted objects. Some volunteers also brought garden sheers to chop off densely overgrown by shrubs, trees, and aquatic plants. In addition, the “Desert Broom” which is an invasive species, was also one of the main activities that the volunteers participated in getting rid of.
In the 2 and a half hour event, we had a huge amount of volunteers who participated including adults, members, and junior members such as Katherine Wei, Michelle Yu, Carrie Chen, Michael Chen, Michael Randolph, Richard Cheng, Kaitlyn Ji, Alex Ji, Jayden Liu, Tony Liu, Diwen Cheng, Xinyun He, Jayden Xu, Dylan Xu, Marie Chen, Ryan Duan, Yuxuan Deng, Andrew Yang, Grace Yang, Olivia Zhao, Kaden Zhao, Jiyu Wang, Lei Tang, Amy Xie, Peiyu Wang, Shiyu Tang, and Amanda Xu.
The event was very successful not just because of the amazing turnout but also because of the impact our branch made on the environment from doing something as simple as picking up trash. We look forward to doing more group service projects at Veterans Oasis Park.
