During the week of July 15, 2019, five members of East Cobb Branch participated in the YMCA Lunch Packing Program.
The program’s goal is to serve over 300 children each day over school breaks. It needs many volunteers to help deliver and serve lunches to local kids. These children may not be able to have a healthy meal when school is out. The program also inspires volunteers to communicate with the children.
On Wednesday, July 17, Nicholas went to Dwell and packed and delivered about 10 lunches for two and a half hours. Few kids came to pick up the lunches.
On Thursday, July 18th, Faith went to Bella Grand and packed about 25 lunches for two and a half hours. Some kids came to pick up the lunches.
On Friday, July 19th, five members came to help. Nicholas went to Dwell, and Brian, Kevin, Sean, and Faith went to Bella Grand and packed about 35 lunches for two and a half hours. A moderate amount of kids came to pick up lunches.
Our members participated in the whole process of the program by setting up tables, packing well-balanced meals for the kids, and carrying bags of food and toys for the kids. Volunteers also engaged in fun activities that the kids really seemed to like and enjoyed seeing how grateful and happy the kids were.
Attendance: Brian Kuang (2.5 hours), Faith Huang (5 hours), Kevin Shen (2.5 hours), Sean Yan (2.5 hours), Nicholas Zhang (5 hours)
