On July 6, 2019 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm at the Cary Neighborhood Walmart, then from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm at Davis Square neighborhood, a fundraising bake sale headed “Summer Fruit Cupcake Stand” was hosted by members of Cary AYLUS. The stand sold four flavors of cupcakes: Raspberry Lemon, Lime, Blueberry Lemon, and Peach. They produced 58 cupcake to sell, and their profits went to the ASPCA, the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, a nonprofit humane society dedicated to rescuing and preventing the mistreatment of animals.
This bake sale was the result of the arduous work done by three of Cary AYLUS’ members spread across three days.
Thursday, July 4, members baked the base of the cupcakes, which consisted of vanilla and lemon flavors. This took approximately 3 hours.
Friday, July 5, a general base for all the frosting being used was made. Since there were four different fruit flavors, condiments of each fruit were created from scratch: raspberry puree, lime juice and zest, blueberry puree, and peach jam. The frosting base was divided into four, and the corresponding condiments were mixed into each. By the end of the day, they had spent 4.5 hours creating the frosting.
Saturday, July 6, in the duration of 3 hours, the cupcakes were frosted and decorated just before the first sale at a local Walmart. That evening, a second sale was set up in a neighborhood.
In the end, the bake sale was quite successful, and all of the cupcakes were sold. That and the donations of generous people raised about $130, of which the profits will be going to the ASPCA.
