On the day of July 2, 2019, 12 members of the AYLUS East Cobb Branch prepped for, baked, and sold baked goods from 9:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m.
The goal of the bake sale was to raise money for charity. Members designed flyers for the bake sale before hand to give out to friends and family. A google forms was set up for people to order the baked goods before hand.
From 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., members baked goods such as Japanese Cheesecakes, Red Bean Buns, Cakes, and Banana Bread Muffins. Various jobs were assigned to memebers to make sure the baking went smoothly. Jonathan, Kevin, Gary, and Jay participated mainly in washing the dishes and delivering the ingredients to preparation stations. Katherine and Rima participated in washing and drying dishes, as well as, baking goods to sell. Cynthia, Susanna, Isabel, Brian, and Rachel partook in baking and packaging the baked goods. Through the great communication among the members, the baking went very well. As the members worked, the advisers helped the members to make sure everything was done correctly.
Once all the baked goods were made and packaged, members took the goods to the pickup center. There, members welcomed the consumers with decorated signs and colorful posters. A few members were assigned to greet people. Others were assigned to find the orders for the consumers who came to pick up the orders. Through the bake sale, we not only received profit from the baked goods, but we also received donations from many benefactors.
The bake sale was a great success. In total, we sold 52 orders baked goods. The sale made $374 from the baked goods and $51 from donations. Many people even asked when the next bake sale would be. Members were happy that all their hard work payed off by seeing the happy people receiving their orders.
By working with each other to achieve a common goal, everyone felt actively engaged and willing to exert time towards a better community. As members were serving the community, we had fun and improved skills such as time management and hygiene. Members also increased their knowledge of baking and now exhibit a base-knowledge over the concept.
