On June 23, 2019, 11 members of East Cobb Young Musicians performed at The Solana Senior center for ONE hour. A variety of musicians including violinists, cellists, pianists, and one flutist performed pieces such as Mozart’s K414, Mozart’s Concerto in D Major, among others.
The Solana Senior center is a newly opened senior center in the East Cobb Community that our branch heard of. Our officers in charge of the contacting senior centers were able to go to the senior center and speak with the engagement director to introduce the East Cobb Young Musicians to her. The senior center was pleased to hear that our group was so eager to come and perform for the senior centers. When the musicians went to perform for the senior center, they were welcomed with joyous faces. The musicians felt honored to play for such an amazing senior center and are excited to go back and perform for them the next month.
When we arrived at The Solana, both the staff and seniors welcomed the members with excited faces. While the members performed, the seniors listened attentitiely to the music and clapped along. The staff even complimented the musicians on how wonderful the music performance was. Because the performance ran quicker than expected, pianist Jack Xu recalled and played an older piece that not only made the seniors happy but also concluded a great senior center performance. After the performance, one senior said, “They are so talented. It’s really a treat for us. We all enjoyed the beautiful music”.
The members were delighted to be able to perform for such an amazing audience. They were happy to be able to share their love of music with the seniors. The members would not only communicate through their music but would also interact with the seniors after the performance.
