On June 21, 2019, 6 members of East Cobb Young Musicians performed at Arbor Terrace and Alto at Allegro Senior center for ONE hour each.
Our presence was greatly enjoyed by the seniors, and we brought great joy to them through our music. Even though we were short on people, shortage meant that we could each perform multiple songs, allowing the seniors to experience the style and characteristics of our playing.
There was a colorful and widespread variety of pieces played. Brian playing a romantic Chopin waltz that greatly moved the seniors, Cynthia playing virtuosic pieces by Accolay and Sarasate, Selina and Susanna playing mellifluous and melodic duets, Jay playing fun trumpet solos, and Jack playing various works by Chopin.
As usual, we were greatly welcomed at Arbor by a huge eager crowd that couldn’t wait for us to start. Everything worked out great and smoothly, and you could tell that the seniors were bubbling with joy. One ecstatic senior even started dancing during my performance of Grande Valse Brillante. Another was heard saying “My, I can’t believe how talented these young people were.”
At our second stop, Alto, there was a smaller but no less enthusiastic audience. Though many of them seemed to have disabilities, it warmed our hearts to see their faces light up in joy at the sight of our performance.
All in all, we were able to cheer up the senior of Arbor and Alto greatly by playing pleasant and tuneful pieces for them to hear.
