On May 20, 2018, young musicians of East Cobb Branch performed at Arbor Terrace Senior Livings, and Sunrise Senior Livings. In the TWO hours performance, the team has quartet, violin solo, violin duo, clarinet duo, piano, and quartet with classical and light music.
Team captain Michael Fu was very excited to visit the two seniors again, he greeted seniors and introduced the new members to our old friends. In addition to serving as concertmaster for All-State and Honor Orchestras, our quartet players won a national champion in 2017 National Champion for Middle School Chamber Orchestra.
The power of music to bring joy, purpose, connectivity, and healing to our older brothers and sisters is immeasurable. It will reduce isolation and enrich the lives of all participants. One of the director from Arbor Terrace said “They have taken on their own initiative to visit,” “It’s very difficult for senior center staff to find volunteers to bring their talent to the center and perform their skills. . . . Elderly people, some, feel isolated from the younger generations. This makes them feel recognized and appreciated.”
The seniors like our young musicians very much, Taylor Holt, Event Director of Sunrise, told us that many seniors reserve the seat very early, they like to see young talent faces, everybody enjoy the happy hour.
Attendance: Michael Fu (Violin), Cynthia Ruan(Violin), Isabel Zhou(Violin), Rachael Li(Violin), Jonathan Shu(Viola), Alex Lynm(Cello), Kevin Shen(Clarinet), Katherine Sha(Clarinet), Susanna Huang(Piano/Violin), Salinas Huang(Piano)
