On December 18, 2015, members of the Lincolnshire AYLUS branch hosted a holiday concert at Sunrise, a senior living center, in order to spread the holiday spirit. We invited friends to come and perform with us, because as the saying goes, the more the merrier! We ended up with many talented kids (over 20), ranging from the ages of 9 through 16, who played a variety of instruments, including the violin, cello, viola, flute, and piano.
The concert itself was a great success–the room was filled with seniors who clapped or hummed happily along with the holiday music that the kids performed by themselves, in duets, trios, or quartets. At the end of the concert, everyone – including kids, parents, and seniors – came together to sing Silent Night. Afterwards, we chatted with the seniors and handed out chocolates and candy canes.
Overall, this concert brought family and friends together and brought something special and different into the seniors’ lives, which we hoped had made them happy and excited for this holiday season. We thank everyone who helped make this event possible and wish everyone happy holidays!
