The President’s Volunteer Service Award

AYLUS members can report volunteer hours so that all the significant contributions are recorded and rewarded. Volunteers will receive recognition according to the hours they contributed to conducting educational activities, organizing good-will events, carrying out community service projects, etc. At the end of each reporting period, volunteers who have accumulated sufficient service hours with AYLUS are eligible to apply for a certificate for the President’s Volunteer Service Award (PVSA).

  1. AYLUS volunteer hours reporting period is from each year’s May 1st to next year’s April 30th. For instance, the next period is from May 1st, 2023 to April 30th, 2024. Note “reporting period” refers to the year eligible for PVSA application, not AYLUS internal reporting.
  2. By PVSA guidelines, AYLUS will reward volunteers for the age they were for most of the award period (at least 7 months). Applied to AYLUS reporting period, a volunteer’s age on October 1st in the previous year is his/her age for PVSA. For instance, if one’s birthday is October 1st, 2007 or earlier, he/she is at least 16 years old (Young Adult), for the reporting period of 2023-05-01 to 2024-04-30.
  3. By PVSA guidelines, AYLUS, as the certifying organization, has the full discretion on how to verify and accept service hours. We therefore reserve the rights to decline artificially inflated hours, nonactual services, activities with obscure nature or without clear verification.
  4. By PVSA guidelines, AYLUS does not recognize paid services as volunteer work.
  5. While not to be judgmental on one’s belief, AYLUS has decided not to admit faith-based activities for PVSA application. Activities that take place during the normal worship service are outside the AYLUS PVSA guidelines. This means that AYLUS does not count ushering, participation in the choir, playing music, babysitting in the church nursery, or other activities that are practiced during worship hours.
  6. AYLUS promotes the development of its members’ creativity, leadership, and initiatives. The PVSA application is only for a Qualified member of an Active branch. The AYLUS hours should represent at least 34% of the total hours to qualify.
  7. Any AYLUS event must come with a post on the website (aylus.org), which listed a volunteer’s full official name, exact service date (not a period), and hours (reasonable, certified by the branch advisor), better with visible pictures taken during the event.
  8. AYLUS will decline any artificially inflated hours or activities with obscure nature. Any non-AYLUS volunteer activity must come with a signed certificate and/or a signed confirmation letter from the contact person for verification.

All applicants should use the following Microsoft Excel template to submit service hours (AYLUS events with web posts; Non-AYLUS events with signed confirmation letter and/or certificates from the organizations) to their branch advisors by each May. Guideline and instructions are in the template.
