Voting is the fundamental right that underpins all our civil liberties. The right to vote is the most enshrined right in the constitution and is protected by five separate Amendments. in order to instill an early sense and habit of civic engagement and political participation in our next generation, and to maximize the political participation and voter rate in the historic 2020 Presidential Election among American Chinese and other Asian American communities. AYLUS Phoenix would like to encourage high school members to proactively involve and help for 2020 voter registration.
the following are volunteer activities we planed:
1: The students who is interested in making flyers will search websites of the Secretary of State and major counties Election Departments (offices) and collect the following information:
- Voter registration requirements, especially state’s policy regarding qualification or disqualification of people under court order or under Department of Correction’s supervision for a felony conviction (each state is different)
- Documents needed for proof of citizenship
- Availability of online voter registration (40 states allow online registration)
- Locations to obtain voter registration forms if online registration is not available
- Voter registration deadline
- In person registration deadline, and election day registration option if any
2: Design a digital a flyer with the information found, and the to be reviewed and ratified by the team.
3: To poster this flyers through social media tools such Facebook, twitter, Instagram, WhatsApp and etc. to encourage the people especially Chinese American and Asia American to register voters, and to increase the registration rate.
4: Community and voter outreach by phone calls, emailing and social medias or through online events and celebrations. to directly to encourage the people especially Chinese American and Asia American to register voters, and to increase the registration rate.
