After obtaining permits from the school through an application process, AYLUS Oyster Bay members prepared various Chinese delicacies at home and created posters adorned with calligraphy decorations in advance. They also purchased various food packaging online. On February 23, 2024, AYLUS Oyster Bay members set up a food table covered with red tablecloths and installed a 10’x7’ banner with a New Year theme as the backdrop at Common of Portledge School. Labels were placed to indicate the food names and the individuals who cooked them. Our dedicated members took shifts to oversee the sale of these delectable offerings. Traditional Chinese foods, such as spring rolls, dumplings, egg tarts, sweet and sour spare ribs, and more, were sold to students and faculty in celebration of Lunar New Year. Additionally, cookies, candies, cakes, and bubble tea were available. The delicious food received unanimous praise and support from the entire school community. The fundraiser lasted from 10:30 am to 2:00 pm, raising $1.4K, which will be donated to the Portledge Foundation.
Gratitude to the following 22 young volunteers, totaling 62.5 volunteer hours collectively.
