The Roslyn AYLUS branch assisted at The Chinese Cultural Association of Long Island (School of CCA) from 1:30 to 5:00 PM on a drizzling Sunday afternoon of December 3rd, 2023.
As Teaching Assistants (TAs), we, the volunteers, teamed up with the teachers to ensure the well-being and concentration of the children. Our daily tasks involved more than just guiding students to the restroom, helping with water breaks, and managing snack purchases. We aimed to create an environment where students feel encouraged to give their best, focusing and actively participating in their exploration of Chinese knowledge. When students faced challenges hearing the teacher or understanding the lesson, we went the extra mile by repeating questions and guiding them patiently through the learning process. In moments when the kids felt frustrated or homesick, we stayed by their side, offering comfort with care and understanding.
Between 4:00 and 5:00 p.m., we bring the students to their respective extracurricular activities. However, our job is still ongoing. Throughout this hour, we move to our appointed room, ensuring the well-being of the students and maintaining a positive path for their activities.
We aim to encourage a more spirited community and cultivate a positive student atmosphere. Engaging in this rewarding effort creates a lasting impact on the younger children and generations.
