AYLUS Dix Hills works with the LISOC to assist in teaching
On November 19th, Dix Hills branch of AYLUS volunteers once again worked with teachers to teach children Chinese at LISOC. Volunteers did multiple tasks to ensure a productive learning environment for students and further improve their linguistic abilities.
Aylus volunteers mainly focused on keeping students on task and doing what they are assigned by the teachers. This was accomplished by occasionally checking on the students, and also answering any of their questions. Volunteers are able to make the teachers job easier and allow them to teach more efficiently since the students are always paying attention. Additionally, volunteers answered students’ questions. This involved explaining concepts, clarifying instructions, and offering assistance to help students learn the material better.
Other tasks were given to the volunteers such as grading student’s homeworks, or helping with their classworks. This saved the teacher time. Materials were also obtained if the teacher needed or asked for, and volunteers successfully made the class productive. Classroom was also cleaned up, with organizing and clearing the whiteboard.
This opportunity helps with volunteer’s ability to assist and cooperate with students. While helping the community, and also improving personal experience.
