On September 30, 2023, dedicated volunteers from the Pearland branch enthusiastically joined forces with AYLUS Houston to facilitate the inaugural SMILE Inclusive Playdate in Katy. This event was made possible through the collaborative efforts of the Pearland Branch, AYLUS Houston, Hummingbird Community Outreach, the generous support from the Light and Salt Association, and the Katy Christian Chinese Church.
Leveraging their invaluable three years of expertise in crafting inclusive play curricula, the Pearland branch volunteers demonstrated their deep understanding of both adults and children with special needs. They ingeniously curated a series of engaging games and activities specifically designed to enhance the fine and gross motor skills of individuals with special needs.
The event proved to be a resounding success, leaving a lasting impact on both the volunteers and the attendees. As the day drew to a close, the overwhelming sentiment among everyone involved was the strong desire to transform this heartwarming occasion into a regular, monthly event. Through this collaborative effort, a community was built, and smiles were shared, emphasizing the importance of inclusivity and compassion.
