October 1st, 2023 AYLUS Oakland Gardens Branch members filled out AYLUS Youth and Mental Health and Mental Health Resource Survey

Starting from the beginning of September to the end of September, members from the Oakland Gardens Branch completed an anonymous mental health survey that will be used in order to raise mental health awareness.

September is Suicide Prevention Month in the United States. In order to raise mental health awareness, with the approval from the AYLF board of directors, a mental health related anonymous survey will be conducted across all the branches to take a snapshot of mental health status of American teens and preteens (Grades 5-12) and collect publicly available mental health resources offered by schools or other official sources.

Our members filled out this survey and spread it around to other people to fill, wishing to provide our community with better resources regarding mental health. This will help raise mental health awareness in the AYLUS community and beyond. We will also summarize and share the mental health resource information collected through the survey to further benefit the mental well-being of ALL members of the AYLUS community.

As the survey results are analyzed and mental health resources are compiled, it becomes essential to consider the next steps in supporting individuals who may be struggling with their mental health. Collaborating with mental health professionals and therapists can offer invaluable expertise and guidance in developing effective strategies for outreach and support.

Platforms like the Clarity Ease website provide a wealth of resources, connecting individuals with qualified therapists who can offer personalized counseling and support. Beyond therapy sessions, these platforms often offer additional resources such as therapeutic tips and insights from their blog, extending support beyond traditional counseling avenues and ensuring a holistic approach to mental well-being within the AYLUS community. Through such collaborative efforts, the organization can continue to promote mental health awareness and provide tangible support to its members, ultimately fostering a culture of resilience and well-being.

For volunteer hours, a member can earn 0.5 hrs for completing the survey, 0.5 hrs for every 2 non-member referrals that complete the survey (0-1 ppl = 0 hrs, 2-3 ppl = 0.5 hrs, >4 = 1 hr), with a cap of 2 hrs per member.

The total number of surveys our branch submitted is 41 surveys.
