Aylus Dix Hills Assists at A Food Distribution

A volunteer event at Island Harvest’s food distribution event on August 24, where our branch came together to pack and prepare essential food items for distribution to those in need. The event aimed to address food insecurity in our community by providing a variety of nutritious foods, including potatoes, celery, corn, eggs, milk, meat, tomatoes, and peppers. This report outlines our activities and experiences during the event.

Upon arrival, volunteers were organized into teams. Our task was to ensure that all food products met quality standards and were suitable for distribution.

We carefully inspected each potato, removing any damaged or spoiled ones to ensure that only fresh, healthy potatoes were included in the food packages.

These vegetables were sorted and packaged in individual bags to make them easily accessible for recipients.

Volunteers packed cartons of eggs into each bag along with the milk that was distributed into smaller containers for easier handling. We separated the meat into portions suitable for family-sized servings, taking care to properly package them.

As the bags of food were being prepared for distribution, some volunteers assisted in organizing the logistics of the event, such as arranging the distribution area and coordinating with recipients. One stood near the line of cars to direct them to the food distribution area, while others had the task of giving out the food.
