San Diego Branch organized a school supply drive on 08/19/23. All school supplies collected have been donated to UPLIFT San Diego. Carla Dorantes, UPLIFT Student Services Program Manager, said this was the largest school supply donation UPLIFT has received this year. She gave high regards to AYLUS San Diego members.
UPLIFT stands for Urban People Living in Faith & Trust. It was founded in 1987 to accelerate community transformation and lift vulnerable populations to their full potential through free services to low-income students and people experiencing homelessness. UPLIFT San Diego’s Kids at Heart program offers free one-to-one tutoring to advance academic achievement and accelerate literacy skills of at-risk youth. For many students in their program, barriers to academic success come in the form of poverty and the struggle of learning English as a second language. They are collecting donations of school supplies and new backpacks year around for underserved youth in our community. AYLUS San Diego’s school supply drive will directly benefit student in their Kids At Heart Tutoring Program.
