On 8/12/23, members of the AYLUS Syosset volunteered at the Cornell Cooperative Extension Nassau Farmers’ Market at Eisenhower Park again. The market is dedicated to bringing awareness to the benefits of eating farm-fresh produce and supporting local businesses. There were many vendors featured at the market, all of whom sold locally-made items. These include vegetables, fruit, bread, baked goods, pickles, candles, and more.
The volunteers helped with setting up at the beginning, with the market beginning at 9:00 AM and cleaning up at the end, after 12:00PM. During the market, volunteers worked at the welcome booth containing information about the market as well as the activity booth. This week, there was no gardening in a glove activity. Instead there was a plethora of coloring activities, mazes and word searches. It was national farmers week this week.
Members participated include:
Margaret Zhang (4 hours), Alyssa Huang (4 hours), Thea Chen (4 hours), Tracy Xu (4 hours).
