San Diego Branch Hosted the Solution for Hope Online Tutoring Class on August 13, 2023

Coop with Libraries With Love, the AYLUS San Diego Committee kicked off the 2023-2024 Solution for Hope on-line classes for raising funds to build libraries in Africa. The Tutoring Class Activity continued in the week of August 7, 2023 – August 13, 2023.

The goal of tutoring classes is to help ESL students in the local area to quickly grow accustomed to communicating in English and get needed help for their schoolwork. In order to help them conquer their language problems, we’re hosting this event to have volunteers help the ESL students. The lessons will be flexible times based on the schedules of volunteers and students and be conducted on zoom. We hope that with this event we can help these ESL students adapt to their new surroundings and gain confidence!

Through this activity, AYLUS volunteers were able to teach 10 students a wide array of topics and led them through many different discussions, each one tailored to suit the student’s individual needs. Each class is a one-on-one private lesson, with volunteers specifically matched with students.

Annie Zhong taught 1 on 1 English (Eliane Zhao) for 1.5 hrs on Monday Aug. 7, 2023.

Abhiram Chalamalasetty taught 1 on 1 Python (Matthew Chiu) for 1.5 hrs on Wednesday Aug. 9, 2023.

Serena Liu taught 1 on 1 English (Jason) for 2 hrs on Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2023.

Colin Xie taught 1 on 1 Math (Jenna Taeb) for 1.5 hrs on Sunday, Aug. 13, 2023.

Serena Liu taught 1 on 1 Python (Max Zhang) for 2 hrs on Sunday, Aug. 13, 2023.
