On August 12th, 2023, AYLUS Chapel Hill returned to Bolin Creek Trail to begin a new project in collaboration with the local government of Chapel Hill. In the past, the branch has participated heavily in picking up trash along the trail and restoring the surrounding greenery by removing invasive plant species. This time, though, the group of 8 painted a group of small birdhouses scattered along the edges of the trail, a resource commonly used by the trail’s wildlife, whether it be birds or insects or squirrels. Using a variety of colors and designs, the group successfully decorated multiple birdhouses, as shown in the pictures below. We believe that in painting these birdhouses, we were able to add vibrancy and color for both the animal and human guests walking the trail to enjoy.
This project is ongoing, and work on the birdhouses will continue with future sessions.
Volunteers who participated in this event are Nicholas Wang (2.5 hours), Luna Chen (2.5 hours), Eric Sun (2.5 hours), Karen Lin (2 hours), Kayla Lin (2 hours), Kasi Lin (2 hours), and Ethan Li_DA (2 hours).
