Reported by Adora Xiao :
On Thursday, July 27th, Murrieta AYLUS members lended a hand to the Community Mission of Hope food bank.As the day began to heat up, the volunteers began prepping the boxes of food filled with meat, deli, fresh produce, and breads/treats to be distributed. A few carts of boxes were formed and stored in advance, and the work was occasionally interrupted with new shipments of food, which were sorted and weighed before being placed on the shelves or were pushed into the refrigerator. The pattern continued as the boxes were sent out and empty carts were returned, needing new boxes to fill the shelves. When the volume of work in boxing ebbed, the volunteers transferred to making plastic bags filled with snacks and treats. Each bag was filled to the brim and tied, before the volunteers moved to make new ones. They emptied the crates of food with ease, finishing off the last of the bags. They took extra time to rest before wiping down the tables and cleaning up the workspace, pushing carts, tables and chairs away to be stored. The volunteers look forward to returning next week!
