On the Sunday afternoon of July 16, 2023, AYLUS Syosset participated in the formation of a small group teaching children how to improve their Chinese through speaking and writing. The program’s main focus was to spread awareness of the Chinese language as all are welcome to learn. The teachers, or the volunteers, wrote out and explained Chinese characters and pinyin so that the children in the class all knew how to read and understand them. The teachers prepared for 2 hours before the children came to class and taught them for 2 hours with a 15-minute break between each hour. The first class resulted in success since most of the children present enjoyed learning Chinese while having a great time.
The purpose of this implementation is to encourage younger generations to learn Chinese as a second language and to grant an opportunity so that people in the community can understand each other better and raise interest in the language as a society.
Members that participated include : Suiwai Li (2 hours), Xihan Zhang (2 hours), Thea Chen (2 hours), and Suiying Li (2 hours)
