Reported by Adora Xiao & Hsin Chen (Julie) Lu :
On Sunday June 18, Murrieta AYLUS members lended a hand to their local senior centers: Torrey Pines Living senior center & Atria Park of Vintage Hills.
At Torrey Pines Living senior center: Members started the day with some light exercise, stretching out their bodies and joints. They then took time to play some faux tennis, bringing smiles to the residents’ faces and causing some heavy exercise of their own. After multiple rounds, the residents became thirsty, and drinks of juice or water were passed out. After cleanup, they started reading the daily chronicle, made special for Father’s Day. Then, they watched some videos to do with the reading within the daily chronicle. Finally, they took time for transport for the residents down to lunch.
At Atria Park of Vintage Hills: The staff stopped the movie the residents were watching and the members helped transfer them to another room for their next activity. Once everyone’s been settled in, the members began helping to hand out bowls of macaroni, vegetables, and hummus to the residents as well as cups of fruit punch. Then, they went around and handed coloring pages and colored pencils to anyone that wanted to color. The members, too, took a coloring page and some colored pencils and accompanied the residents. When they noticed that the residents were done with their food, they cleared the table of empty cups and bowls before returning to their coloring.
