On June 26th, members of the AYLUS Upper Manhattan Branch eagerly participated in a volunteer activity at Stuyvesant Square Park. This initiative was a collaboration between the AYLUS Upper Manhattan Branch and the “It’s My Park” campaign, an ongoing effort to clean and enhance parks throughout New York City.
The AYLUS volunteers arrived at Stuyvesant Square Park, situated between Rutherford Place and N D Perlman Place, and spanning from E 15th Street to E 17th Street in Manhattan. The group gathered near the East Fountain, one of the park’s vibrant planted areas, to begin their day of service.
Equipped with gardening gloves, rakes, and pruning shears, the AYLUS members joined forces with the Stuyvesant Park Gardeners, who had organized the event. They shared a common goal of beautifying the park and creating a more welcoming environment for the community to enjoy.
The AYLUS volunteers turned their attention to weeding, carefully tending to the planted areas. They skillfully identified invasive species and removed them, allowing the native plants to thrive. Their efforts were aimed at preserving the ecological balance of the park and promoting a healthy ecosystem.
Under the guidance of experienced gardeners, the volunteers tirelessly worked together, transforming Stuyvesant Square Park into a cleaner, more beautiful space for the community to enjoy. They exemplified the spirit of service and dedication, demonstrating their commitment to making a positive impact on their local environment.
The AYLUS Upper Manhattan Branch’s collaboration with the “It’s My Park” initiative not only benefited Stuyvesant Square Park but also fostered a deeper sense of community and environmental stewardship among the volunteers. Their involvement showcased the power of collective action in creating meaningful change and inspiring others to participate in similar endeavors.
