Members of AYLUS Syosset participated in a bird walk at the Theodore Roosevelt Sanctuary and Audubon Center in Oyster Bay for Pride month. Members engaged in learning about and spreading awareness of the local bird species on Long Island. Members used the binoculars provided by the Audubon staff to find a variety of species on the 1 mile hike. These species included cardinals, blue jays, black-capped chickadees and tufted titmice. We also learned about the local plant life. The edible and invasive garlic-mustard plant was abundantly present along the trail. Lastly, members received Audubon pride merchandise through the event’s raffle.
Audubon New York is a respected and influential organization that advocates for conservation and protection of native bird species in New York State and is committed to progress legislation that conserve and improve the state of our environment. Audubon members acknowledge that the thousands of jobs and the ever growing state’s gross domestic product depend on the conservation of the environment, clean water, fish and wildlife. AYLUS Syosset hopes to continue to work with and volunteer alongside Audubon for more events in the future.
