San Diego Branch Hosted the Solution for Hope Online Tutoring Class on June 18, 2023

Coop with Libraries With Love, the AYLUS San Diego Committee kicked off the 2023-2024 Solution for Hope on-line classes for raising funds to build libraries in Africa. The Tutoring Class Activity continued in the week of June 12, 2023 – June 18, 2023.

The goal of tutoring classes is to help ESL students in the local area to quickly grow accustomed to communicating in English and get needed help for their schoolwork. In order to help them conquer their language problems, we’re hosting this event to have volunteers help the ESL students. The lessons will be flexible times based on the schedules of volunteers and students and be conducted on zoom. We hope that with this event we can help these ESL students adapt to their new surroundings and gain confidence!

Through this activity, AYLUS volunteers were able to teach 3 ESL students a wide array of topics and led them through many different discussions, each one tailored to suit the student’s individual needs. Each class is a one-on-one private lesson, with volunteers specifically matched with students.

Annie Zhong taught 1 on 1 English (Eliane Zhao) for 1.5 hrs on Monday, June 12, 2023.

Jessica Jiang taught 1 on 1 Chinese in person(Eunice Fu) for 4 hrs on Tuesday, June 13 and Thursday June 15, 2023.

Lauren Kan taught 1 on 1 Math (Frank Fu) for 2 hrs on Thursday, June 15, 2023.

Eric Li taught 1 on 1 History (Jason) for 1 hr on Saturday, June 17, 2023.

Colin Xie taught 1 on 1 Math (Jenna Taeb) for 2 hrs on Sunday, June 18, 2023.

Andrew Chen taught 1 on 1 Math (John Zou) for 2 hrs on Sunday, June 18, 2023.
