On June 10th, from 8:30 AM to 1:00 PM, the Queens branch helped set up and run the community health fair in Corona, Flushing. We initially helped set up tables and chairs on the street that would later be used for health information stations during the fair. After setting up, all volunteers went into the surrounding neighborhoods to hand out flyers and invite people to come check out the health fair. Once all flyers were handed out, some volunteers went to separate stations to hand out raffle tickets as a way of encouraging people to get health screenings with a chance of winning a prize. Meanwhile, Jonathan and Tiffany went to get 100 balloons that the fair organizers pre-ordered. After coming back with all the balloons, we handed them out to each table at the fair. We continued to alternate jobs until 1:00 PM, where we were invited to make a speech to promote AYLUS in front of everyone at the fair.
Awareness of individual health is extremely important and many citizens often overlook it due to a variety of reasons. The health fair was a way to help spread awareness to many of the medical implications in every day life. As a community, we learned and developed new insights regarding the medical field. As a team, we learned how to work effectively with one another and to work around complications as needed.
