Reported by Hsin Chen (Julie) Lu
On May 29th, 2023, Murrieta AYLUS members visited the Atria Park of Vintage Hills senior center to give a music performance to the residents. They were invited to perform at both the Memory Care building and the main building. The members first went to the Memory Care building. A background on the piece was given to the seniors before each performance. Many residents were brought to tears by the member’s piano cover of “A Thousand Years” by Christina Perri. At the end, the seniors and members gathered together to take a picture, and the residents showed their appreciation by singing “You are My Sunsine”. The members had around 20 minutes left before their next performance, and were invited to have ice cream in the ice cream parlor of the main building. During the break, some members went to the library where their performance was to be held and started chatting with the residents there. As the starting time for the performance drew closer, the members got ready and prepared their instruments. As the members concluded their second program, they chatted with the seniors for a while longer before leaving with promises of coming back with another performance soon. Everyone had a great time and were glad to have been able to make the residents day with their music.
