On May 27th, 2023, Murrieta AYLUS members helped out at their local Habitat ReStore. Habitat ReStores are independently owned reuse stores operated by local Habitat for Humanity organizations. ReStores accept donations and sell a constantly changing inventory of diverse, high-quality merchandise to the public at a fraction of the retail price while diverting reusable household items and building materials from area landfills. Upon arriving, the members were first shown to the break room where they would check in and out at the beginning and end of each of their shifts. They were then shown around the store and taught what kind of items are in each aisle. After the tour, the members headed back to the break room to sign themselves in before heading to their assigned area. Coincidentally, it was a sale day so the store was full of bustling customers, meaning that items are commonly moved around. The members helped place and organize the items in their designated areas and direct customers to the area they would find what they were looking for as well as answer any questions they had. They also helped reposition objects to optimize customer mobility around the store, organize stocks on shelves, and place new items on the aisles. When the time came for their shift to end, the members headed back to the break room to sign out. The staff members were all very patient and willing to help guide the members. Everyone had a great first experience working at the Habitat ReStore and they look forward to their next visit!
