On April 15, 2023, five high school students from the AYLUS Chapel Hill Branch performed music in many different ways to elderly people in the Carol Woods retirement center. In our group, we had five volunteers, consisting of two pianists, one clarinetist, one saxophonist, and one singer. These talented musicians expressed their feelings and skills through different genres of music, namely pop, jazz, classical, and more. They played and sang many passionate pieces and songs, and for each person, there was a warm applause at the end. Through our monthly visits to this retirement center, we hope to bring forth our musicianship. Not only does this let these elders listen to a diverse range of music, these volunteers also get to practice playing in front of a crowd, sharpen their skills, and show others their love of music. With these students playing and singing wonderfully, we hope that the residents enjoy more different kinds of music, and that they experience what music really is.
Volunteers who participated in this event are Eric Sun (2.5 hrs), Grace Gao (2 hrs), Nicholas Wang (2 hrs), Kevin Chen (2 hrs), and Luna Chen (2 hrs)
