On the morning of April 2, three members of the AYLUS Chapel Hill branch performed its routine trash cleanup at the Dry Creek Trail. The volunteers encountered items from plastic bags and wrappers to blocks of foam, scattered along the trail and near the East Chapel Hill High School campus. Despite the sultry spring weather and the steep dirt roads, they marched on, undeterred, and concentrated on the mission at hand.
As littering continues to be an issue, it is important for us to take action and ensure that it stays clean, not only for the comfort of those using the trails and in the neighborhoods but also for maintaining a healthy natural environment so that ecosystems can continue to thrive. However, unlike previous cleanups, only one bag of trash has been collected, a promising indication that the problem is improving recently. Nonetheless, we look forward to returning next time and continuing to serve the community!
Volunteers who participated in this event are Andrew Xu (2 hrs), Eric Sun (1.5 hrs), and Kathryne Hong (1.5 hrs)
