On March 17, 2023, AYLUS Great Neck Branch volunteered for Make Us Visible at SUNY Old Westbury. Make Us Visible is an organization established for Asian-American pioneers to pursue their dreams. Students performed songs and dances with different cultural characteristics to advocate their national pride.
Our task today was to greet the guests and introduce them the program. We smiled as they arrive, and greeted them to make them feel welcome. We also had other tasks such as distributing informational materials, answering questions from attendees, or providing general event support. Managing the crowd was important because we wanted to make sure no one is lost. We provided clear directions when the guests were not sure where to go.
Volunteering at Make Us Visible is a rewarding experience because we learned valuable skills and met new people. It’s also a great opportunity to learn more about the cultural traditions and experiences of the Asian-American community. We hope that guests who have attended the event enjoyed the performances and cultural displays. At last, we want to thank Make Us Visible for providing us the opportunity to volunteer and for providing each member a certificate from the Make Us Visible NYS Co-Director.
