Project “Young Writers Club” is a program designed to provide free insight and support to aspiring young writers in the San Diego Region. In support of this program, an AYLUS San Diego Branch volunteer organized a Young Writers Club Session on March,4th 2023, which reviewed community pieces by local young writers, and enriched parents’ and kids’ understanding of writing growth. In this session, we started brainstorming and analyzing winning articles for 2023 New York Times Student Editorial Contest. Also the teacher provided personalized feedback on students’ writings.
At the same time, an online Young Writer Club Forum has been created for young writers to provide a safe and friendly writing community for junior writers to share their pieces.
By establishing this program, AYLUS hopes to provide creative writing education and knowledge accessible to all, especially kids underprivileged or special needs by connecting with the community with their requests, needs, and feedback, and also by providing equal opportunity. Also through this workshop, we are aiming to raise funds for the Libraries of Love, a project to build libraries for K-8 kids in Africa and provide books to them.
AYLUS Members that participated in the Writing Workshop Series on 3/4/23 are
Hans Yang (2.5 volunteer service hours)
Max Yang, Kevin Kan, Lauren Kan, and Enke Luo (1.5 Volunteer service hours each)
