December 3rd, 2022, AYLUS Pearland held a TA meeting for junior members who participate in the online teaching. The experienced TAs shared their stories on the hardships and tips to become more capable of adapting to challenging moments while teaching. They discussed different methods of helping with young students being unable to focus, uninterested in the topic, and more.
In the meeting, volunteers also discussed how to teach the new learning material Reading A to Z. They guided the future TAs how to assess student’s reading levels and adjust the pace of teaching accordingly and they also discussed using different techniques to teach ESL students.
AYLUS Pearland has opened a new group class for grades 3-4. Some students from group classes for grades 1-2 have moved up into our new class. More students have been joining these classes. In grades 1-2, new students are trying out classes to see if the level is too low or too high. Most of the TAs get feedback from parents on how to improve from their perspective.
Altogether, AYLUS Pearland now has a new learning material and a new group class for grades 3-4. In our group class, students are slowly getting comfortable with our TAs.
Throughout December, AYLUS Pearland continued online tutoring program despite of the winter break. Volunteers have tried out the new reading program in different classes and future TAs have been trained in tutoring.
