On Friday from 4:00-5:00 pm, we underwent training at the Bryant Library to properly learn how to use the different devices and programs that will be used in the family event tomorrow. We went over the Cricut maker app and how to access and assign people to the different tables, as well as go over the various forms used for registration and checkout.
On Saturday from 11:30-4:30, we arrived at the library to set up the games for the children’s section and distributed the supplies for the flower craft. One of us set up the laptops that are connected to the Cricut machine and two were stationed near the table in the front for registration.
Around 12:30, people started arriving. We checked off their names and recorded the number of people in a family. Showing them to their seats, we waited for the library tech team to introduce the events before the people in charge of activities went back to their stations. Keeping safety in mind, we guided children and teens from ages 3-13 in all sorts of activities including checkers, chess, scrabble, Pictionary, ring toss, bean bag toss, and 3D gun crafts, as well as introduced them to the basics of coding through playable robots. Some of us helped people maneuver the Cricut Design Space so they could print out t-shirts.
While around 120 people had signed up for the event, only sixty or so showed but it was still very crowded and we had to be mindful of a lot of kids at once. We started cleanup at around 4:15.
Members who participated in this event include:
Yang Amy Wu (6 hours), Zihan Wang (6 hours), Serena Wu (6 hours), Graydon Archondo (5.5 hours), Jacqueline King (4 hours), and Olivia Yang (4 hours).
