Murrieta AYLUS Lends a Hand to Habitat for Humanity Inland Valley #3 – ABWK project (10/29/22)

Reported by : Adora Xiao

On October 29, 2022, Murrieta AYLUS members lent a hand to Habitat for Humanity Inland Valley for the “A Brush with Kindness” project.  Today’s project was to paint a house at Temecula Heritage Mobile Home Park.

They started the chilly day by getting lost in the suburbs, before arriving at their painting destination. The home was to be painted gray, and they immediately got to work. Sections were cut and everyone split into groups, covering different walls and higher areas that required ladders. They’d check their work in between moving on, ensuring there were no white spots remaining and no runs, or paint dripping down that’d dry unevenly. They carefully covered the walls they were able to reach, paying attention to being careful around the metal window frames and lights on the houses. As they’d finished all the areas they were capable of reaching, they did a final check of their work. Then, the members congregated around the metal door. The door had small slits, thus painting had to be done with brushes instead of the roller, and runs were easily found running down the sides. After the door was finished, they got to work rolling up the tarps. They’d stretch the cloth between two people, before folding and dropping the tarps into the van. After the tarps were collected, everyone bid goodbye to the successful painting!
