Under the leadership of President Sky Tianyi Han and Co-President Michael Yang, AYLUS Greater Triangle NC began a campaign in August 2022 to improve safety at Panther Creek High School and the Channing Park community by installing crosswalks and traffic regulations. Volunteers took advantage of Labor Day to collect signatures from September 3rd to 5th. Although they encountered some resistance from new residents, they were also praised by the community. More than 120 households signed the petition.
The petition calls for a crosswalk to be installed between Panther Creek High School and the Channing Park community to address traffic congestion and safety concerns for students and residents. Channing Park is a new community of 220 homes across the street from Panther Creek High School. Because the school is close to the community, Panther Creek High School does not provide buses to the community, and students have to walk or drive to school, causing traffic congestion. The school has more than 2,800 students, and traffic jams during peak hours make it difficult for students to arrive at school on time. It is very dangerous for students to cross the road.
Setting up pedestrian crossings and traffic rules will bring multiple benefits, including ensuring the safety of students and families, reducing the number of vehicles entering and leaving schools, alleviating congestion, and promoting a peaceful and harmonious ecological environment.
Through this campaign, AYLUS Greater Triangle NC has made significant progress in making the community safer for students and residents.
