The AYLUS Bellaire Branch volunteered at Books For Development on Saturday, July 2, 2022

The AYLUS Bellaire Branch volunteered at Books For Development on Saturday, July 2, 2022.

Books For Development vouches for literacy exposure in developing countries, such as Uganda and Africa, by donating books and creating libraries. Many developing countries and prisons do not have access to books, creating a literacy skill dichotomy between those who have access to books and those in developing countries who do not. Books For Development helps close this gap by donating books to places from Uganda’s local schools and prisons, to libraries in need of more up-to-date books.

Volunteers sorted and packaged books from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM. During those 3 hours, some volunteers sorted donated books into categories, and some boxed the already sorted books. The books sorted and packed will be sent to Uganda and several other developing countries in need of books.

The following volunteers attended this event (3 hours):  Alexander Tang, Victoria Wang, Irene Chen, Megan Wang, Emerald Tang, Alan Du, Melanie Flannery, Owen Cheng, Andrew Liu, Emma Xiao, Lucas Wang, Samantha Yu, Valerie Yu, Lucy Huang, Yuruo Shen, Zoey Dou, Sophia Li.
