In the period of 01/01/2022 to 02/06/2022, the East Cobb Branch of AYLUS held Youth Tutoring activity
online, in light of the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic. All tutoring activities were one-on-one
and either Skype or Zoom was used. In the case of oversea students, WeChat was used for
tutoring sessions.
The Chinese students were taught English based on their current understanding of the
language. A total of two Chinese students were tutored throughout the month of January.
The two students consisted of a sixth and seventh grader. The sixth grader was taught
English vocab and grammar, and the tutor would spend most of the session going over their
textbooks and reviewing vocab words to make sure they understood what the words meant,
how to pronounce them, and how to use them in a sentence. The seventh grader had a
better understanding of English, so they were able to read short stories and follow along
with the tutor as they read. The tutor also went through their homework and textbooks with
them to make sure they were understanding all the material from their English class.
Tutoring these two students was very fun, and the best part was when the students had
improved their English over time.
Five tutors spent a combined 39 hours tutoring 12 students with reading, Math, Chinese and piano.
Attendance: Jay Pan (11 hours), Jack Xu (3.5 hours), Bruce Ren (17.5 hours), Sean Yan (4 hours) and Bryan Cao(3 hours).
