On Sunday, 5/1/22, AYLUS Syosset conducted a clean-up on Howard beach. Plastic bottles, bags, caps, straws and metal cans. Howard Beach is located in the southwest of Queens Borough, New York city with about a 50 minute drive from Syosset.
There is a lot of trash littered on the beach which makes the event worthwhile. Multiple bags of trash was collected and aquatic animals such as clams were liberated back into the sea, purchased from the fish market.
Trash pollution is a prevalent issue in a lot of the world today, and harms the environment unchecked along with any life inhabiting the area. This event was an attempt to help the local community with excess trash buildup. Keeping the local beach clean will translate to conditions which are much more conducive to biodiversity and beauty, as animals that live in the ocean are susceptible to large amounts of plastics left there.
Participants included Jaden Chen (2 hours), Margaret Zhang (2 hours) and Celeste Chen.
