On April 30, 2022, AYLUS Greater Temecula Valley members Ally Negulescu (4hrs), Adora Xiao (4hrs) volunteered at the 34th Annual “Run Through the Vineyard”.
Vineyards are plantations of grape-growing vines, often correlated with winemaking. However, vineyards can also provide for raisins, table grapes, and non-alcoholic grape juice. The “Run Through the Vineyard” event was hosted at the Maurice Car’rie Vineyard, established in 1968.
The event consisted of three challenging courses and wine tasting, lasting all morning. Participants were invited to participate in the 10k, 5k, or 2k courses, running through the vineyard. Vendors set up booths with trinkets, food, energy shots, and water. After participants returned, they were greeted with water and snacks, like bananas, oranges, and energy bars. Awards were given to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place runners, and finisher medals were given to all participants. Participants were of all ages, and even families participated together. GTVA members watched in awe as all runners demonstrated their perseverance and drive. After the running, wine tasting was provided to participants of age.
GTVA members woke up early, arriving at 6 in the morning to assist with preparations and registration. Members spent time with the DJ and received energy shots and water, before helping with setting up tables and preparing for the first 10k course. At 7:30, participants gathered and began the 10k course. Members had the opportunity to send off participants of all three courses with an airhorn and plenty of cheering. Armed with more energy shots and bananas, members then headed off to the course, cheering on the exhausted participants as they neared the end of their run.
