On April 3rd, the AYLUS Chapel Hill branch volunteered at the 4th Annual Festival of Nations that took place in Durham Central Park. The festival celebrated 9 cities and 30 nations that had representation in and close cultural ties with Durham. The diversity of culture between nations and states were celebrated through various food trucks, performances, and informational booths. The AYLUS Chapel Hill branch, as volunteers, facilitated the robust exchange of culture and information by aiding mini-workshops and handing out introductory pamphlets to participants willing to take part in the celebration. Some workshop activities included encouraging people to get familiar with chopsticks and refreshing the set-up of the booths to prepare for the next participants. Stationed at the entrances were schedule/program sheets, which were offered and distributed by us to newcomers and anyone in need of information about the festival. It was an experience to not only recognize and understand the diversity within Durham, but also a successful attempt to work together with people of the community.
